About IWC Schaffhausen
In 1868, Florentine Ariosto Jones from Boston founded the “International Watch Company” in Schaffhausen. The American watchmaker combined modern production methods from his homeland with Swiss craftsmanship to produce high-quality pocket watches for the luxury segment. At the age of 27, he not only created IWC's typical engineering approach, but he also established the centralized production of mechanical watches in Switzerland.
Over the past 150 years, IWC has made a name for itself worldwide with functional and user-friendly complications such as chronographs and calendars. The manufacturer was a pioneer in the processing of titanium and ceramics and today specializes in robust watch cases made from technical materials such as titanium aluminide or Ceratanium®. With a clear, puristic design language and continuous innovation, IWC develops timelessly beautiful icons.
Clocks from Schaffhausen are built to last for generations. IWC places correspondingly high demands on the sustainability of all company activities. The manufacturer values transparency, sources raw materials responsibly and reduces the impact of its business on the environment. She trains the next generation of watchmakers herself and wants to offer all employees the best working conditions. Together with partners, IWC also supports disadvantaged children and young people worldwide.
